Marriage and Family: 2 spiritual lessons from Duck Dynasty

October 15, 2013

Duck Dynasty is a phenomenon. I think I knew this before last week, but then when I saw a bag of dog treats with the logo on the front, it was confirmed. You can't go anywhere & not see Duck Dynasty branded on something. The Duck Dynasty emblem is everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I love this show. We have it DVR'd each week. It is wholesome, clean, redneck fun - all of which I can relate.  It also elevates family, faith, marriage and much more -  all of which this world needs more of!

Here's the question for this blog:  What are some spiritual lessons can we learn from the Duck Dynasty phenomenon? Here are two that I came up with and two take-aways for you.

God uses everyday people to share his message of grace, hope, forgiveness and love!

1 Cor. 1:25-27 reminds us

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Your Take-away:  God can use you.  Just be authentic as you represent him!

Following Christ is fun.

I don't know where we fell into the trap that the Christian life is boring.  Perhaps it's because we are trying to live it without Christ, focusing more on managing sin, keeping the rules, looking a certain way and playing a certain part...The Duck Dynasty gang are fun-loving, faith-filled, followers of Jesus...and I think they have fun along the way. We need to learn to laugh at ourselves, enjoy the ride, stop worrying about all the stuff that doesn't matter and have some fun as Christ followers.  The joy of Christ should lead us to do so!  Remember, HE's got it.  You are loved deeply and saved eternally, so have some fun as you follow Christ.

Nehemiah 8:10 says

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Your Take-away:  Have fun as you walk with Christ

If you are Duck Dynasty fan, I'd love to hear what spiritual lessons you see from this phenomenon!  I have a few more and will share these in some upcoming blogs.  For now, what cha' think?

Yes, I agree...all Christians have a platform, it doesn't matter whether it is national or in our home, neighborhood, churches, work-places...the call is for us all be the Gospel on display

I think Duck Dynasty has given a platform for the gospel to be shared in word and deed. I'm not so sure that other Christians see the platform that God has given them. We think the platform has to be big and nationally known, but don't you think that all Christians are given a platform to display Christ?
