Marriage and Family: 3 Places to place you hopeAugust 13, 2013
For years we have shared the difference between a personal wish and Biblical hope. Wishing and hoping may seem the same to you but they are NOT! Atleast not Biblically. A Biblical hope is the confident expectancy that God will do what he promises. But before I share the 4 places to place your hope, I want to remind you that God has made some promises. In fact, he's made a lot of them. I recently heard James McDonald give this definition of God's promises, I think you are going to like it, so here goes: "an assurance God gives his people so they can walk by faith while they wait for him to work." I thought this was an awesome way to drill down what God's promises are and what they do! For sure, most days, life is less than clear. There are simply some things we don't know right now, nor how they will turn out...but with God's promises in my arsenal of truth, I have the assurances I need to continue to walk by faith until some things are figured out.
With this as our foundation today, here are the 3 places to place your hope as you lean on God's promises for all that you are either facing now or will face in the future! Place your hope in the...
1. unfailing love of God! (see Eph 3:16-19, Ps. 33:18-22)
2. unstoppable power of God! (see Eph 1:18-22, Luke 1:34,37)
3. unchangeable word of God! (Ps. 119:114, Ps. 130:5, Heb. 13:8)
Here's the point: no matter what you are facing - God's love, power and word will never fail you. His love is long enough, wide enough, deep enough and high enough to reach you. His power is strong enough to work through it and His word has an answer for it!
Here's what I'd like to know from you:
What promises of God have you seen come true for your life?
What promises of God are you currently holding onto believeing they will come to pass?
How does the understanding that HOPE is the confident expectation that God will do what HE says keep your faith moving forward?
How does the definition of a promise help you in whatever you are facing right now?
I'd love to hear from you, so leave me your comments.
