Marriage and Family: Holding It Together!February 02, 2011
"The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Col. 1:15-17)
If you don't know our story, take a moment and go to the "about us" section of our website. The short version is that we lived in the same house together for 15 months pending our divorce trial and after going through 3 days of trial - fighting for the custody of our kids, we found ourselves receiving joint custody. We also found ourselves with the inability to "hold it all together!" And friends, this is GREAT NEWS. Because this is exactly where Christ wants us. Praise God, HE doesn't give up on us. Praise God in the midst of our many storms, HE continued to pursue us. Isn't it awesome to know that no matter what and how life unfolds, Christ is always lovingly pursuing and passionately attempting to draw us back to himself.
You probably can relate. You are probably trying to hold some things together even as you read this blog. You are worried about your future, you are worried about your health, you are worried about your finances, your kids, and so much more....
But look at what Paul tells us...."in HIM all things hold together!" In other words, Christ is the glue...not you. That's why Christ said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28)
This is so comforting for us because it let's us exhale and simply rest in the power, the promises and the provision of God. You see, for us, we found out personally that the more we tried to hold it together, the more frustrated we became. We also found out that if Christ is who He says He is and HE does what HE says HE does...then we have some hope! After all, HE promises to meet all of our needs (Phil 4:19) and nothing is impossible for HIM! (Luke 18:27).
As we closed the service this past weekend, a couple came to the alter. The husband was weeping deeply. He said these words to us..."I am just so tired, I am just so tired of trying to hold it all together!" In other words, he was ready to let Christ have it...in fact, both he and his wife prayed to receive Christ. Praise God what a Savior!
What about you...what do you need to release today into the hands of Christ? Perhaps it is your life. If it is, go to the Why we believe page on our website.
If you know Christ, then be encouraged today, Colossians 1:18 reminds us that "he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy." In other words, when you allow Christ to be "firstborn" - which actually means 1ST PLACE and to become SUPREME in YOUR LIFE, YOUR relationships and YOUR circumstances...HE promises to HOLD IT ALL TOGETHER! So let HIM have it...whatever IT is...after all HE died for IT!
