Marriage and Family: What's Your Word for 2016?January 01, 2016
"Happy New Year!" We will hear these words a lot today. A New Year brings with it so much excitement with a new slate and endless possibilities right in front of us. Words are powerful and just like saying "Happy New Year" says so much, getting a WORD for 2016 brings great power and purpose to our lives. Proverbs 25:11 says, "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver."
What you may not know about me (Jena) is that God has given me a "Word for my Year" for several years of my life now. One year, my word was discipline. One year my word was balance. I believe God has given me those yearly words to keep me focused on what He wanted to do that year in my life.
That's why asking God for a Word for your year will help you focus on what HE has and wants for you. Afterall, without focus, we will simply react to life instead of live it.
But 2016 doesn't have to be that kind of year for you. Your 2016 can be a year with focus, purpose, meaning and direction. And one way for this to happen is to slow down, get in God's presence and ask HIM for YOUR WORD FOR 2016?
So, why not, on this first day of 2016, start asking God to show you your word for 2016? Your word may come quickly, or it may take a few days as you spend time with the Lord. But the confidence of scriptures is if you seek him, you will find him, if you seek him with all your heart. Then, as the Lord reveals your word for 2016, live this next year with YOUR WORD in the forefront. Every time you read your Bible, encounter people, face your problems, remember your Word for 2016. Trust us, God will show you new and exciting things as HE grows you in ways you've never grown before.
And once you get YOUR WORD, we'd love to hear from you. Perhaps you already have a "word for 2016" and if you do, please share it by posting a comment on this blog If you don't have your Word for 2016 just yet, when you do, please let us know what the Lord shows you. We also encourage you to share it with your family and close friends. There is power in this as we help one another keep our word in the forefront of 2016. We have found that discovering a word for each year is truly life-changing, giving us focus and purpose as we go through this new year and we believe this will be true for you as well, so go get your Word for 2016!

I felt like God actually gave me my word a couple of weeks early this year. My one word is "Involved"...it's time to stop sitting back and watching life and instead get involved! I want to get involved more in the lives of those around me, in my church, and in life in general.

Donna, that is such a great word for 2016. We are made for relationships and the truth is - we need one another and this means we have to live your word and be "involved" in the lives of others, advancing God's Kingdom, making a difference - may 2016 be your best year yet!

I'm going with "intentional" for my 2016 word. Tired of coasting, which led to drifting. Ready to live on purpose and with purpose.

My word is "JOY". Unlike happiness, joy is a choice and I am choosing to allow the Lord to put JOY in everything I do everyday. and then I am sure that happiness will be a natural by product.
